Suspension:-- A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but remain suspended throughout the medium.
For example when soil is mixed in water, soil particles (solute) are not dissolved in water (solvent) but they remain suspended in the mixture.

Properties of suspension

  1. It is a heterogeneous mixture.
  2. The particles of a  suspension can be seen by the naked eye.
  3. The suspended particles scatter a beam of light passing through it and make the path of light visible. This is called Tyndall effect.
  4. It is unstable. The solute particles settle down when a suspension is left undisturbed.
  5. It is opaque.
  6. It's constituents can be separated by filtration.
